Claire + Sports = No

Ask a bulk of my peoples, and they will tell you. I am not a sports girl. I am athletically challenged. I will not play a pickup game of basketball with you. I flinch when soccer balls come towards me. I just recently (today) learned what NFL stands for. And do not even get me started on the satan game they call volleyball. No. Just no.
Why are you talking about something you dislike/don't care for at all, Claire? Well, in light of Lynbrook's first home football game, which I went to (to watch Aly cheer her butt off-- no, not literally. And she let me bring a book), I made the heroic decision to discuss sports.
I am a theatre girl, to the bone. I mean, I have one of those mothers who when you are little puts you in maybe every single extra-curricular activity out there so that you can try everything and become a well-rounded young'in. So, in the Kindergarten and the first grade I did soccer. Soccer with five year olds is basically followfollowfollowfollow the ball kickkickkick ball ball ball ball ball. So. Yeah. I did enjoy it. But then a girl from another team kicked/catapulted the ball into my stomach, which turned me against soccer. And all flying vessels.
I also grew up watching baseball. For maybe the first decade of my life, a good 20 hours was spent at a diamond a week. My brother did baseball for that long. And my mother is into baseball. And my Dad's side of the family has a friendly-ish Giants Vs. Dodgers thing going on. I could've been like a baseball queen. But instead I chose to play in the grass and eat hamburgers by my lonesome.
And volleyball. Volleyball hurts. I thought players got long inner-arm guard things. Last year during our volleyball unit in P.E. I was sadly mistaken. Volleyball hurts. I hate it the most because I totally suck at it. Majorly. That year in skill testing I got a 6/20. I love telling people that.
I also don't get football. Who wants to watch sweaty men wearing 80's trendwear tackle each other? Not this girl. It totally annoys me when my friends are all "You seriously, like for real, don't know who blahblahblahManning/Kombutcha/whateverhisname is???!!!" Honey, I could so turn it around on you and be all; "OMG! How can you not know who Sierra Boggess/Sutton Foster/Jeremy Jordan is??! I mean c'mon!" Haha. Those suckers. That poor soul who tries to teach me about football.
To end on a positive note, though, there are some obscure sports I really do like. I like ultimate frisbee, roller derby, dance, and all the circus sports and whatnot. See? I like sports. Just the weird ones.

      Go be sports-y.
         Claire
